As a volunteer agency our Counsellors, Physical Support Staff and Management Board members are all volunteers. We also have a number of volunteers who help us on a more casual basis, such as those who make or collect baby clothes on our behalf, and those who provide services, for instance a project manager or a web designer (many thanks to David Wells for his work designing and putting up our website).
Although many volunteers come to us with previous experience and existing qualifications, these are not a requirement, as in-house training is provided. Our counsellor training is based on the Rogerian method of person-centred counselling, and runs for approximately 40 hours, spaced over a number of weeks (during our 10:00 am to 2:00 pm office hours). Further individual (needs-based) training occurs post-course.
If you feel motivated to help those who are in distress, in a caring, non-judgemental manner, and you believe yourself to be an affective communicator, then a position at Pregnancy Counselling and Support may be for you. To discuss volunteering, or other ways you can help, please contact our office and speak to one of our coordinators.
